Flow Cells: PDMS Casting and System Integration

In order to immobilize molecules or cells in microfluidic channels, the flow-through system should be designed such that it can be closed and opened again. It would be also ideal if one and the same fluidic system could be utilized for different analytical (e.g., electrochemical or optical) methods by very simple modification and also allow efficient cleaning.

For this purpose, provided are flow-through chambers with removable coverslips for the microscope. These flow cells are mounted in seconds and can be applied in cell imaging or single molecule fluorescence. If needed, electrical signals can be transferrd or optical fibers mounted.

Layout and assembly of the microsystem can be modified in a wide range. So in addition to PDMS, other materials can be used and microvalves and microelectrodes can be integrated. Due to the easy and modular setup, even the most complicated methods in screening and nanotechnology can be realized.

Our approach is to provide modular solutions for microstructuring that are complementary to the microfluidic applications that we work with. Provided are numerous approaches towards developing 3-dimensional surface topographies. These systems are developed for precision liquid handling for microscopic imaging and can be integrated with the Nano-Plotter platform.
